Head Over Heels With Life

Tue, 09/06/2011 - 13:59 — Thabo Mokete

It would be wrong, if I ever say that life is unfair. Now that I've come to grasp it, I'm in love with life. Totally head over heels! Each and every moment we spend together.

All my faults and failures, shattered dreams and lost hope, are  nothing but a call for me to come back home to life itself.

There are no secrets between us. In life I'm completely known and understood. Life is actually nearer to me that I am to my own self.

I Am Good...

Tue, 08/30/2011 - 12:31 — Thabo Mokete

I am good
When I am sober.
I make sensible decisions;
I am loving, caring and sensitive;
I am happy and free.

I am not good
When I am drunk
I don't understand my own decisions;
I trash everything, and abuse everyone, especially myself;
I am not happy.

But the thing is:
I don't have to drink or smoke anything to be drunk,

When I am angry
I am drunk already,
My mind is dirty;
I cannot think straight, I cannot see where I walk,
I even kick stones
I make decisions that I later regret.

For Those Who Sleep

Thu, 08/25/2011 - 14:41 — Thabo Mokete

In memory of the woman who loved me first, and perhaps most of all, my mother. I dedicate this verse to all those who lost their dear mothers through death, regardless of when and how they died.

For those who sleep in the grave tonight,
Our lonely souls are sighing;
For our hearts have lost their light,
Our eyes hurt so from crying;
Yeah though they be gone from us,
We know they're not lost,
Because they're sleeping,
And they're resting in the One who loves them.

Your Prayer Has Been Heard

Mon, 08/22/2011 - 11:48 — Thabo Mokete

"Sometimes we pray too long and the answer passes by..." Tyler Perry's The Marriage Counselor.

Your prayer has been heard and the answer has already been sent to you. All that remains is for you to open your arms and receive it.

This is because God hears the actual prayer long before the words are spoken! The way God listens to prayer is not the same way that we humans listen to prayer. We only hear the words.

Wed, 08/17/2011 - 06:14 — Thabo Mokete

Only yesterday I saw you, sunrise.
My heart quickened, my whole body was warmed;
Then I knew: winter is over, spring is here.
I like spring, yes I do;
And that is why yesterday was such heaven for me,
Basking in the warmth of your light.
Even in the heat of the day,
Nothing could take my joy away
As I sat in the cool shade among trees on the evergreen grass;
For without you, there can be no shade.
As the day grew older and the heat started to cool away,
The shade faded from under the tall trees.

Life Persists

Tue, 08/16/2011 - 15:39 — Thabo Mokete

Ever since I became aware, I find that life persists in me, each and every day. We cause ourselves a lot of unnecessary burden by thinking we can do something to make life better by doing certain things. All that we need to do is let ourselves to be moved by the persistence of life.

Can anyone think of a reason why he or she was born? Or perhaps anything they did to earn the right to be born. We simply appeared, with the fullness of life in us! Nobody told the babies that were  that we should now breathe or that we should now suck the milk offered to us.

The Woman On The Horizon

Mon, 08/08/2011 - 13:46 — Thabo Mokete

Any person can be born female, but it takes everything you've got to be a woman. To be female, that's natural and given, but to be woman, that's priceless! And that's what we celebrate today.

There is meaning in being a woman. The best we can ever be is woman or man. Those are the highest human accolades. When you get to the place where you can say 'I'm a woman' and be proud of it, you know you're sitting on top of the world!

Shame and Grace Part 3: The Power of Acceptance

Thu, 08/04/2011 - 16:29 — Thabo Mokete

There is a life transforming power within grace. The power of acceptance found in grace burns up our shameful weakness, our fear and anxiety and melts them into love. Love for life itself.

There is often a weakness in the soul that keeps bringing the person down, over and over again. In the course of time, this becomes a source of great shame and self-reproach. Even before the world or God can judge us, we find we are already judged and sentenced within our own self.

Is It Possible?

Mon, 08/01/2011 - 08:40 — Thabo Mokete

(A Wedding Verse)

[For the occasional poet that I am, I just love reading this poem at least once a year...]

People often say that love is never enough,
That two people can’t fly on the wings from day to night
That you will need this and that to carry you in the rough;
I almost think that they are right.

Sometimes life appears like your reflection on a muddy pond,
Through half the moonlight;
How can anyone possibly know if love is not enough?
For too many people in this world too often love too little,

Three Things That Keep A Man or Woman From Home

Wed, 07/27/2011 - 09:28 — Thabo Mokete

There is a place in my heart that I call home, full of love, joy and freedom. It only takes one of three things to remove me from there: need, fear and judgment.

The idea that I have a need that cannot be met in the present moment is most distressing. Whenever I believe this idea, I run away from my own senses.

I then use myself as a means to an end. I use my body and my soul as a means to securing what I need. I cease from living freely and being motivated by love. My existence becomes a need existence.
